Playfulness as a Path.
A Full Moon Reflection on Lightness, Joy, and Presence
As the Full Moon rises, so too do our emotions.
These lunar moments often bring things to the surface - inner tensions, buried emotions, and subconscious patterns rising like waves to be witnessed, felt, and, if we allow, released.
We often speak of the Full Moon as a time of culmination or illumination. But it can also be a time when things feel especially heavy - energetically, emotionally, even spiritually.
And that is precisely why playfulness becomes not only relevant but essential.
In Our Personal Lives
When was the last time you allowed yourself to be silly - really silly?
To sing loudly in the kitchen.
To dance like nobody's watching.
To chase a butterfly, skip a stone, paint with your fingers?
In personal relationships, play strengthens connection. It creates space for intimacy and spontaneity, reducing pressure and inviting us into deeper joy with one another. With ourselves, play allows space for self-acceptance—to meet our inner child and say: “You are still welcome here.”
Why Playfulness Matters—Especially Now
Play is not a luxury.
It is a frequency—one that elevates, liberates, and reconnects us to our innate joy.
And in a world that often feels too serious, too rushed, too intense, playfulness becomes an act of sacred rebellion.
Whether it’s through laughter, movement, art, music, nature, or simply being present with what delights us, play brings us back into alignment. It lifts stagnant energy. It softens our edges. It reminds us that we are alive—not just to work, process, or strive, but to experience life fully.
Play isn’t just for children.
It’s a vital spiritual tool for adults navigating a rapidly shifting world.

In Our Work Lives
Even in our most professional settings, bringing lightness into the room can shift everything.
We often equate success with seriousness. But the truth is, people thrive where joy lives.
Whether you’re leading a team, teaching a class, or collaborating creatively - allowing room for humour, imagination, and playful energy can unlock innovation and build trust. It humanises leadership and fosters environments where authenticity can flourish.
Play doesn’t mean chaos.
It means flow.
In Our Inner Dialogue
One of the deepest gifts of playfulness is learning not to take ourselves too seriously.
That’s where true freedom lies.
When we can laugh at our patterns, lovingly tease our inner critic, or find levity even in the midst of uncertainty - we expand our capacity for grace. For self-compassion. For surrender.
And as spiritual beings, this lightness helps us hold space for the paradox of being human: to honour the sacred and the silly.
My Personal Practices: Leela and on the Court
For me, playfulness often comes through the simplest rituals.
Every day, I take my cat (more like a fur child) Leela for a walk. Watching her chase leaves or pause in wonder at a flower reminds me of how alive the present moment is. She teaches me joy without agenda, delight without needing a reason.
She is a furry, purring embodiment of what it means to be fully here.
Another way I connect to my playful essence is through tennis - a childhood dream of mine since I was 12. Life delayed it for a long time, but five years ago I made a commitment to myself: I would return to that dream. I now play regularly, and it continues to teach me one of life’s most important lessons:
The more I relax, the better I play.
The more I enjoy, the more I become joy.
But when I try too hard, overthink, or approach it with seriousness, that’s when I lose my rhythm.
And isn’t that such a mirror for life?
A Full Moon Invitation
As this Full Moon illuminates the skies and stirs the depths of our being, may we meet its intensity with lightness. With laughter. With the remembrance that play is not a detour on the spiritual path - it is the path.
So if things feel too heavy this week, shake it off.
Put on a silly song. Take yourself (or your cat!) for a walk. Book that class. Laugh. Dance. Draw. Be curious. Be playful.
The shift is instant. The medicine is real.
Because joy is not a destination. It’s a way home.
